Toogoom Kitesurfing

If you don't like kitesurfing in waves then head to Toogoom for the weekend and kitesurf in the protected waters of Fraser Coast.

Before you setup camp, be sure to check the wind direction and tides. Queensland is generally blowing from anywhere between the south and east and Toogoom is a northern facing beach. The best direction for this spot is between a North-West (very rare) to a North-East.

Have a look at the satellite image below and you will that the sand banks in some areas reach for hundreds of metres. Check the tide times before go as this can stuff your whole day up if you get it wrong. `

Local Kitesurfing Knowledge in Toogoom

Toogoom River Mouth
Toogoom Beach Depending on the wind direction, setup your kite and try a downwinder on the 10km coast of Toogoom. Otherwise you've plenty of room elsewhere to try new tricks. If I had to compare this spot to anywhere else, it'd be Redcliffe (30 mins east of Brisbane), the water is protected from swell by Fraser Island and so the surface is reasonably flat.
